The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has underscored the importance of innovation and creativity in enhancing the appeal of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to both local and international visitors.
During a high-level meeting held in Accra with the Acting Executive Director of the Park, Dr. Collins Rawlings Nunyoname, the Minister emphasised the need to reimagine Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy in a manner that remains relevant and inspiring for future generations.
“As a proud admirer of Dr. Nkrumah and what he stood for, I believe there are creative ways to revisit and reinterpret his ideals so they remain relevant to current and future generations. The park must be a living, breathing space where the spirit of the Black Star continues to inspire.”
The meeting served as a platform to assess the current state of the memorial park and discuss strategic plans for its revitalisation. Dr. Nunyoname provided a detailed briefing on operational developments, existing challenges, and ambitious plans aimed at enhancing the visitor experience while preserving the site’s historical authenticity.
Key among the proposals presented were the introduction of immersive cultural experiences, interactive installations, and engaging exhibits that celebrate Ghana’s rich heritage and Dr. Nkrumah’s enduring legacy. According to Dr. Nunyoname, these innovations are geared toward transforming the park into a dynamic cultural hub that supports the government’s vision of a 24-hour economy.
He also noted the importance of aligning the park’s operations with sustainable revenue generation strategies that can support ongoing maintenance and development.
The Minister expressed her full endorsement of the proposed initiatives and reaffirmed her Ministry’s unwavering support for the park’s transformation.
She noted that the revitalisation of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park is not only a tribute to Ghana’s first President but also a national priority in promoting historical education and cultural tourism.
“The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park should stand tall not just as a monument of the past, but as a beacon of pride, inspiration, and national identity for present and future generations”.
The renewed focus on innovation and modernisation is expected to position the park as a must-visit destination and a symbol of Ghana’s enduring historical and cultural significance.
