The Minister of Finance, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, has announced that the World Bank has agreed to support Ghana in the development and implementation of a comprehensive Growth and Jobs Strategy aimed at tackling the country’s youth unemployment crisis.
This follows a high-level meeting with the World Bank’s Managing Director for Operations, Anna Bjerde, at the Bank’s headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Taking to his social media handles shortly after the meeting, the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam MP noted that the Growth and Jobs Strategy is aimed at creating opportunities for over 500,000 young people entering the job market annually.
“Just had a productive meeting with Anna Bjerde, the World Bank MD for Operations, at the Bank’s HQ in Washington, D.C. Pleased to share that the World Bank has agreed to support Ghana in the development and implementation of a Growth and Jobs Strategy. This is a bold initiative aimed at creating jobs for the over 500,000 young people who enter our job market each year,” he said.
Dr. Forson stressed the significance of the partnership, noting that it marks a major step in building an inclusive economy that provides real opportunities for Ghana’s youth.
“This is a major boost for our efforts to build an inclusive economy that delivers real opportunities for the youth of Ghana,” he added.
At the heart of the proposed strategy is a focus on job creation, skills development, and inclusive economic growth, with both institutions aligning their priorities to unlock new opportunities for Ghana’s burgeoning youth population.
“This initiative reflects our shared priority of unlocking opportunities for young people,” said Bjerde.
“We are proud to work with Ghana on a strategy that will create jobs and build a stronger, more resilient economy.”
