Open Letter to President John Dramani Mahama by Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah

Dear President John Dramani Mahama,

Congratulations on your re-election as President of the Republic of Ghana! This achievement is a testament to the trust and confidence the Ghanaian people have in your leadership.

As a concerned citizen and resident of the KEEA Municipality, I am compelled to share my hopes and expectations for your administration.

Firstly, I implore you to prioritize the development of our basic schools, which were neglected by your predecessor.
The current state of our basic education is alarming: most schools lack desks, forcing parents to provide them; teachers request whiteboard markers and chalk from parents, and exorbitant terminal examination fees are charged. Moreover, textbooks are scarce, hindering our children’s learning.

It’s disturbing to note that while Senior High Schools enjoy free textbooks, examination fees, and desks, basic schools are left to fend for themselves.
I urge you to extend these benefits to basic schools, as they are the foundation of our education system.

Furthermore, I would like to bring to your attention the issue of utility bills. It is unfair that basic school pupils are asked to pay for utilities while Senior High School students enjoy government-paid bills. I request that you consider covering utility bills for basic schools as well.

As a resident of KEEA and an unemployed youth, I am eager to see the Komenda Sugar Factory, built in 2016 by you but abandoned by the NPP government, operationalized to create jobs for Ghanaians, including myself. With its potential to employ 7,300 people along the value chain, this factory could be a game-changer for our community.

I also join many Ghanaians in calling for a concerted effort to fight corruption.
We expect your administration to investigate and prosecute suspected corrupt acts, particularly those that occurred during the previous administration.

As you begin your term, remember that the overwhelming 55% of votes you received come from a diverse range of Ghanaians, not just NDC members. This is a clear mandate for inclusive governance.

Lastly, we urge you to address the high cost of living and unemployment rate in Ghana. Many citizens struggle to afford basic necessities, including food and building materials.

Mr. President, this is your last term, and we expect you to leave a lasting legacy. We will hold you accountable for your promises and expect tangible progress.

Sincerely,
Kojo Ata Kakrah Abrowah (Bro KAKA)
