A raging fire has gutted the Kantamanto Market in the Greater Accra Region displacing hundreds of traders and destroying large portions of the market.
The blaze erupted late last night and spread rapidly, consuming shops and leaving widespread destruction. Traders scrambled to salvage what they could, but the intensity of the flames outpaced their efforts.
13 fire tenders and equipment were deployed from across the Greater Accra Region as the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) battled to contain the inferno. Despite their swift response, firefighters described the incident as unprecedented, with vast sections of the market reduced to ashes.
Efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing as emergency responders strive to mitigate further losses in the bustling commercial hub.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
