The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Central Region has publicly denounced the actions of Winneba Divisional Commander ACP Jeffrey Darko, accusing him of selective justice and intimidation of NDC members in the Effutu Constituency.
In a press release signed by the party’s regional communications officer, Gabriella Tetteh made it clear that they will never sit idly by while NDC members are intimidated and subjected to harsh treatment by the Effutu MP, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who they claim is behind the hostilities in the constituency.
“We will no longer sit back and watch while our members are intimidated and our billboards destroyed.”
The statement further said, “ACP Darko’s actions are a clear attempt to undermine the democratic process and favour the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
Specifically, the NDC claims ACP Darko has provided security for Afenyo-Markin’s billboard installations while ignoring the destruction of NDC billboards by thugs affiliated with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE). This, they argue, undermines the democratic process and unfairly favours the ruling NPP.
“This is unacceptable and we will not tolerate it. We demand that ACP Darko and the Ghana Police Service remain impartial and ensure a peaceful electoral process,” part of the statement reads.
The NDC has also expressed dissatisfaction with the economic management of the current NPP administration, citing high corruption, nepotism, and the destruction of democratic gains.
“Ghanaians are suffering, and it’s time for a change. We call on voters to reject the NPP and elect leaders who will truly serve the people.”
The NDC has vowed to take action to protect its members and ensure a free and fair election on December 7.
