Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the running mate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has urged voters not to be swayed by the sudden surge of government projects sprouting across the country in the lead-up to the elections.
During her three-day campaign tour of the Western Region, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang interacted with market women at the New Takoradi Market.
She criticized the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration for embarking on development projects shortly before elections as a ploy to win votes, only to abandon them afterwards. She pointed to the stalled redevelopment of the New Takoradi Market as an example, noting that the project began in 2020 but has seen no progress since.
“It didn’t take the NDC years to build markets like Kejetia and Kotokoraba, yet look at Takoradi; four years later, there’s nothing to show,” she remarked.
She also mentioned the halted railway project in Takoradi, started under the Mahama administration, as further proof of the current government’s unfulfilled promises. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang assured voters of the NDC’s dedication to development in the region, noting key initiatives such as the “24-Hour Economy,” the “Big Push,” and the “National Apprenticeship Programme” aimed at creating jobs and boosting economic growth.
She urged voters to support the NDC in the upcoming December 7 general elections for a more prosperous future for all Ghanaians.
