Kow Essuman, the Legal Counsel to President Akufo-Addo, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates participating in the parliamentary primaries on Saturday, January 27, to carefully choose credible and winnable candidates.
Taking to his Twitter (now X) handle, Mr Essuman emphasized the significance of selecting candidates capable of securing a parliamentary majority for the party.
He advised delegates to exercise caution during the process, placing the party’s interests above individual considerations.
Mr Essuman highlighted that a strong parliamentary majority is crucial for a potential future government led by Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to effectively deliver for the benefit of Ghanaians.
“I wish all those contesting in today’s primaries the very best. It is my hope and prayer that the NPP delegates elect credible, winnable candidates to contest the parliamentary elections in December and secure a strong parliamentary majority,” he posted.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to conduct parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party currently holds incumbent Members of Parliament (MPs). Over 104 constituencies across the country are involved in these elections.
The General Secretary of the party, Justin Kodua Frimpong, confirmed that all necessary preparations, including the readiness of ballots and election materials, had been completed and were set for distribution.
Out of the 373 aspirants who filed to contest the primaries, 29 are running unopposed, 11 were disqualified, two were referred to the National Executive Committee (NEC), two withdrew, one submitted an incomplete form, and two did not show up for vetting. This leaves 326 qualified aspirants for the primaries.
I wish all those contesting in today’s primaries the very best. It is my hope and prayer that the NPP delegates elect credible, winnable candidates to contest the parliamentary elections in December and secure a strong parliamentary majority.
