The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a stern ultimatum to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, warning that his presidential convoy will be blocked if immediate action is not taken to address the deplorable state of roads in the constituency.
This comes as a culmination of years of frustration among residents, who have been grappling with the poor state of their roads which leads to long productive hours in traffic and its resultant effect on their daily lives.
The Ningo-Prampram constituency, located in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana, which has its major roads linking the Eastern and Volta regions has been plagued by severely deteriorated roads for years now, causing severe inconvenience to the residents and motorists who ply those roads.
The roads in question have long been a subject of discontent among constituents who feel neglected and unheard by the government. Local businesses, farmers, and commuters have suffered due to the poor conditions, which have led to increased travel times, vehicle damage, and economic setbacks.
The MP (Sam George) who has time without number drawn the attention of the government and the Roads Minister to the development couldn’t help but vent his frustrations at the lack of action from stakeholders.
Addressing the media over the weekend, Sam George who was fuming with rage minced no words when he revealed how the bad state of the road has negatively impacted his constituents for years now.
“With the bad state of the road. I want to find out from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo that the people of Dawhenya and Afienya are not taxpayers of this country and therefore do not deserve a good road as other Ghanaians” he asked.
With his numerous pleas falling on deaf ears, Sam George says he has been left with no option than to block the presidential convoy if it ever plies his constituency as a means to pile pressure on the government to fix his roads.
“We can no longer endure the pain and suffering caused by these deplorable roads. In Akufo-Addo’s hometown, the cemetery roads have all been asphalted. The people of Ningo-Prampram also deserve good roads. Let me serve notice, Mr President the next time you’re going to Akosombo, we’ll block you at Afienya. The next time you’re going to the Volta Region, we’ll block you at Dawhenya for you to walk on this road to see how bad it is. We also pay taxes. We’ve begged you for seven years to no avail. What crime have we committed? Is it because it’s my constituency?” Sam George fumed.
