The National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) 2023 has seen its fair share of captivating stories, with Pope John Senior High School’s Cinderella run being one of the most memorable. However, the fairy-tale journey has reached its conclusion in the semi-finals, leaving students and supporters with a sense of pride and accomplishment.
The semi-final contest was a test of knowledge and quick thinking, with Pope John facing fierce competitors in Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College. The intellectual battle was intense, and each team showcased their remarkable talents.
In the end, despite their extraordinary efforts and strong performance, the dynamic duo of Emmanuel Kweku Asimate and Irenaeus Tetteh Herman from Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary fell short of securing a spot in the grand finale. The competition was incredibly tight, with a mere two-point difference separating the teams.

The victory for OWASS didn’t come easy as the Pope John students gave them a run for their money in the semi-final contest which proved to be a fierce battle of wits, with all contestants displaying remarkable prowess and knowledge. Opoku Ware School, however, managed to maintain a slender lead throughout the competition, ultimately claiming victory despite relentless competition from their challengers.
The electrifying contest kicked off with Opoku Ware and Pope John SHS and Minor Seminary, both securing a remarkable 13 points each in the first round. Prempeh College followed closely, trailing by just one point at 12.
As the competition progressed through the second round, the intensity of the challenges defied the expectations of supporters who had anticipated an easy win for their respective schools. Opoku Ware School managed to sustain their lead, accumulating 23 points, while Pope John Seminary and Prempeh College were not far behind, with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
Round three saw Prempeh College making a strong comeback, securing an additional four points. However, Opoku Ware School managed to maintain their lead with two points.
Nonetheless, complacency was not an option, as Pope John narrowed the gap in round four, accumulating an impressive 33 points each, trailing Opoku Ware School by a mere two points.
In the end, Opoku Ware School clinched a hard-fought victory, emerging triumphant by the slimmest of margins. The students from Santasi secured a total of 38 points, while Prempeh College and Pope John Seminary achieved commendable scores of 36 points each.
