One of the senior police officers implicated in the IGP leaked tape saga, COP George Alex Mensah has described the current IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare as the worst the country has ever had.
According to him, with Dr. Dampare at the helm of affairs of the police administration, the Service is headed in the wrong direction.
COP Mensah made this known when he made another appearance before the parliamentary Committee investigating an alleged plot to remove the IGP.
COP Alex Mensah did not mince words, stating that in his opinion, George Akuffo-Dampare is the worst Inspector General the country has ever had. He voiced concerns about the direction the Police Service is taking under the leadership of the current IGP. He revealed that he had conveyed these sentiments to him on multiple occasions.
“Honourable member and honourable chair, several opportunities and what I said yesterday if you give me the opportunity today, I will say it again. For me, for the 31 years I have been in the service, he is the worst IGP ever,” he said.
This declaration comes following COP Mensah’s previous admission of his dissatisfaction with the current IGP’s management of the Police Service. During Thursday’s appearance, COP Mensah expressed his discontent, stating, “Honourable Chair, I will not deny that fact today, tomorrow or the next day, I will make that statement again, that the current Inspector General of Police is not managing the Police Service well.”
COP Alex Mensah also disclosed his aspiration to become the Inspector General of Police, a position he has been lobbying for. While acknowledging that his efforts have not been successful so far, he affirmed his determination to continue pursuing this goal.
Furthermore, COP Mensah confirmed his affiliation with the New Patriotic Party (NPP), stating that he is a sympathizer of the political party. He revealed that he had submitted his CV to an individual to be passed on to Bugri Naabu, a prominent figure within the NPP, as part of his efforts to lobby for the position of IGP.
“I gave my CV to someone to give to Bugri Naabu for him to lobby for me to be appointed the IGP. We all lobby. I started lobbying in 2017,” he added.
