Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary commenced their journey in the prestigious National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Eastern Regional Championship 2023 with an emphatic win, showcasing their exceptional academic prowess.
The event held amidst an atmosphere of anticipation and enthusiasm, brought together four prominent schools: Pope John SHS, Koforidua Secondary Technical School, Krobo Girls Senior High School, and Nkwatia Presby Senior High School, in an exhilarating battle of knowledge and intellect.
The NSMQ Eastern Regional Championship has earned a reputation for fierce competition and challenging questions, and this year’s event was no exception. Participants from each school displayed their intellectual dexterity and teamwork, demonstrating exceptional knowledge in various scientific and mathematical disciplines.
Pope John SHS, renowned for its strong academic tradition, emerged as the clear victor, leaving their opponents awe-struck with their depth of understanding and rapid-fire responses. The team’s comprehensive knowledge base and ability to think critically and analytically proved to be their winning edge.
Right from the blast of the whistle, the brilliant students of Pope John SHS dominated the contest, establishing a commanding lead that they maintained throughout the competition. In the first round, they amassed an impressive 25 points, outperforming Koforidua Secondary Technical School (KSTS) with 11 points, Krobo Girls Senior High School (KROGISS) with 10 points, and Nkwatia Presby Senior High School with 6 points.
Undeterred by the pressure, Pope John SHS continued to excel in the subsequent rounds. In the second round, they secured an additional point, finishing with a total of 26 points. KROGISS closed in on the leaders with 10 points, while KSTS and Nkwatia Presby SHS trailed with 9 and 8 points, respectively.
With the indomitable spirit of Pope John XXIII, after whom the school is named, guiding them, the students showcased their determination and prowess. In the third round, they accumulated a commendable 10 points, firmly maintaining their lead at 36 points. KROGISS remained in second place with 17 points, while KSTS and Nkwatia Presby SHS followed closely with 16 and 15 points, respectively.
In the final round, although Pope John SHS experienced a slight dip in their performance, their earlier achievements and resilience were enough to secure them the championship title. KSTS made a valiant last-minute effort, finishing in second place with 22 points, while KROGISS claimed the third position with 17 points. Nkwatia Presby SHS demonstrated their intellectual abilities but ended the competition in last place with 15 points.
Pope John Senior High School and Minor Seminary progress to the semi-final of the NSMQ Eastern regional championship scheduled to take place in some days.
