The Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has stated emphatically that the NDC caucus will not relent in its boycott of parliamentary proceedings.
According to the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam legislator, the NDC MPs are committed to carrying through to its logical conclusion, their decision to boycott the work of parliament on trial days of the Gyakye Quayson criminal case.
Speaking exclusively to newsalertgh.com, Dr Ato Forson declared the unwavering stance of the Minority to boycott parliamentary proceedings on the days scheduled for the trial of Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson.
“We stand firm in our decision to boycott parliament during the trial of Gyakye Quayson,” Dr Ato Forson stated.
On appeals by some NPP MPs for them to rescind their decision, he said the NDC MPs wont back down and will even escalate the boycott next week.
The minority party’s boycott is a response to the ongoing trial of MP Gyakye Quayson, who is facing legal challenges over his parliamentary eligibility.
Quayson has been accused of holding dual citizenship, which is prohibited under Ghana’s constitution for Members of Parliament. His 2020 parliamentary victory was annuled by the Supreme Court last month leading to a by-election which he won by a larger margin.
“Our boycott is not a sign of disrespect for the parliamentary system but rather a powerful statement against what we perceive as a breach of the constitution. We have a duty to protect the integrity of our legislative body and the sanctity of our democracy.”
The boycott of parliamentary proceedings by the NDC MPs is biting hard with the House unable to transact any meaningful business.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Okaikoi Central, Patrick Yaw Boamah has made a passionate appeal to the Minority to reconsider their decision to boycott parliamentary business.
This comes after the NDC MPs for the second time abstained from participating in parliamentary business in solidarity with their colleague Assin North MP, James Gyakye Quayson who’s facing a criminal trial on charges of forgery, perjury and deceit of a public officer about the renunciation of his Canadian citizenship.

Reacting to this development, Mr Boamah noted the absence of the Minority from the chamber saying it had negatively impacted the business of the house.
