Assin North by-election: NPP’s Charles Opoku to win by 55% – CDS Africa

A recent survey conducted by CDS AFRICA has provided insights into the voting preferences of participants in the upcoming Assin North by-elections in Ghana.

The survey results reveal that a significant majority of 55.5% of participants expressed their intention to vote for Charles Opoku, the parliamentary candidate representing the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

While the deposed Member of Parliament, James Gyakye Quayson garnered the support of some 43.3% of survey participants, placing him in second position.

The Liberal Party of Ghana’s Bernice Enyonam Sefenu garnered 1.2% of the support from respondents.

When asked about their perception of the Akufo-Addo-led government’s performance, 54.9% of the respondents believed that the government was performing creditably, while 45.1% disagreed.

Regarding the direction of the country, 51.4% of the respondents felt that Ghana was heading in the right direction, while 48.6% held a different opinion.

In terms of which political party they believed managed the Ghanaian economy better, 58.7% of the respondents thought that the NPP government was better at managing the economy, whereas 41.3% believed the NDC government was more adept.

When asked which party they would vote for if elections were held today, 56.9% of the respondents indicated their preference for the NPP, while 43.1% expressed their support for the NDC.

Regarding the likelihood of voting in the by-election, 70.7% of the respondents stated that they were very likely to vote, 15.0% said they were likely to vote, 7.7% were unsure, and 6.5% had decided not to vote at all.

When asked if they were likely to change their preferred candidate by the 27th of June, 79.9% of the respondents answered negatively, while 20.1% expressed the possibility of changing their minds.

Regarding awareness of the Supreme Court’s order for the removal of J.G. Quayson as MP for Assin North Constituency, 84.6% of the respondents confirmed their knowledge of the reasons behind the court’s decision, while 15.4% admitted they did not know.
