Another fake security personnel has been apprehended for posing as a community protection assistant in the ongoing Assin North by-election.
In the latest incident, the young man was nabbed for impersonating a community protection assistant. He was caught wearing a shirt that identified him as a community protection assistant, raising suspicions about his true intentions. When questioned by the police, he failed to provide satisfactory responses, further casting doubt on his credibility.
Upon discovering the fraudulent nature of his claims, the Assin Bereku Police command took the imposter into custody. This brings to two the number of individuals arrested for impersonating security officers.
Earlier, reports surfaced regarding another individual who was arrested hours later for impersonating a soldier.
This person was found dressed in a complete military uniform and has been arrested and detained by the police for further investigation.
Both individuals remain in police custody as authorities conduct a thorough inquiry into their activities.
The Assin North seat became vacant after the Supreme Court on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, unanimously declared unconstitutional the 2020 election of James Gyakye Quayson as the MP for the area.
The highly anticipated by-election was necessitated after Parliament wrote to the Electoral Commission declaring the seat vacant.
Meanwhile,
The governing New Patriotic Party has made a startling revelation that its agents at polling stations in the ongoing Assin North by-election are being arrested in its strongholds.
According to the General Secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, he does not understand why these agents and supervisors in their strongholds are being arrested.
“Our agents have been arrested, three of our people have been arrested, and the sad thing is that all this tension is happening in the stronghold of the NPP,” he said.
