The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is presenting the Mid-Year review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government and Supplementary Estimates for the 2023 Financial Year to Parliament today, Monday, July 31.
This comes after the earlier confusion and uncertainty which surrounded the date for the presentation of the budget. Contradicting reports emerged, each indicating a different date for this crucial economic update.
Confusion rocks Akufo-Addo govt over date for mid-year budget: 25th, 27th, or 31st July?
Originally scheduled for July 27, 2023, the presentation was later rescheduled to today, Tuesday, July 25, 2023, only to be cancelled again until further notice.
After these multiple postponements, the Akufo-Addo-led government finally agreed to present the review today in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution and the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921).
The review will outline how the government plans to stick to recommendations laid out by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to secure continued payments from its agreed support package.
