A former Secretary to the dissolved Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM), Charles Bissue, voluntarily surrendered himself to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on Wednesday, June 21, 2023. The OSP had previously declared Bissue wanted after he failed to respond to an invitation to appear and answer questions regarding a corruption investigation related to the IMCIM.
Bissue was taken into custody at 11:45 GMT and subsequently underwent interrogation by OSP officials. Following the interrogation, he was released on bail.
Mr Bissue is already facing trial for alleged corruption offences linked to the Anas Aremeyaw Anas’s galamsey fraud documentary. In addition to this, he is being investigated for potential corruption issues involving the expenses of the former IMCIM.
Bissue earlier obtained a court ruling aiming to invalidate an arrest warrant issued against him. However, the OSP responded by asserting that they did not require a warrant to effect an arrest.
Consequently, the OSP continued to list Bissue as wanted on their website.
However, the status on the website has now been updated to “reported” after Bissue turned himself in.
A statement from the OSP disclosed that Charles Bissue was placed under arrest, interviewed, and subsequently granted bail.
