Volta Regional Minister Commissions Boreholes in Three Schools to Boost Access to Clean Water

In a significant move to enhance access to clean and safe water in educational institutions and surrounding communities, the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has commissioned three mechanised boreholes at Awudome Senior High School (AWUSCO) in Tsito, Sokode Senior High Technical School (SOSTECH) in Sokode, and Ho Technical Institute (HTI) in Ho.

The initiative, undertaken in collaboration with the National Security, marks the launch of Phase 1 of the Minister’s flagship “Water for All” project. The project is strategically aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which seeks to ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Hon. Gunu emphasised the critical role of clean water in promoting health, enhancing academic performance, and supporting community development.

“This intervention reaffirms our collective resolve to make safe water accessible to all, not as a privilege, but as a fundamental necessity”

He assured stakeholders, particularly school authorities and residents of the beneficiary communities, of his unwavering commitment to expanding the project across the region.

“We are just getting started. Every school and community in the Volta Region deserves this basic right, and I will not rest until we achieve universal access,”

The “Water for All” project is expected to roll out additional water infrastructure in subsequent phases, prioritising underserved areas in both urban and rural settings and forms part of the Regional Minister’s broader development agenda aimed at improving social services and quality of life in the Volta Region.

Local leaders, school heads, and students present at the event expressed appreciation for the timely intervention, highlighting the longstanding water challenges the new boreholes are expected to alleviate.

The Volta Regional Minister reiterated his call for community support and stewardship in maintaining the newly commissioned facilities to ensure their sustainability and long-term impact.
