A five-member committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate petitions filed against the Chief Justice is set to begin public hearings on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The committee, chaired by Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang of the Supreme Court, was constituted in accordance with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution after the President, in consultation with the Council of State, determined that a prima facie case had been established against the Chief Justice.
The move follows the submission of three separate petitions calling for an inquiry into the conduct of the Chief Justice. While the specific allegations remain confidential at this stage, the constitutional process requires a thorough investigation to ensure transparency and accountability within the judiciary.

According to a statement issued by the Office of the President, the committee will convene three times a week to carry out its mandate. Upon concluding its work, the committee is expected to present its findings and recommendations directly to the President.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, who also serves as Minister for Government Communications, emphasised the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring due process is followed in all matters concerning the judiciary.
