Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced that Ghana will commence the implementation of an E-GATE system at the Kotoka International Airport before the end of the year.
The E-GATE initiative is designed to facilitate seamless entry into the country, eliminating the need for travellers to interact with immigration officers. Addressing chiefs, Muslim clerics, and members of the clergy at Twedie in the Atwima Kwanwoma constituency of the Ashanti Region on November 14, Dr Bawumia stressed the transformative impact of the Ghana Card in this process.
“When you have a Ghana card and you come, you will not need immigration. You will slot in your Ghana card and when you are that person, you will be granted access. We are going to start very soon, before the end of this year. So Ghana card is really helping us,” Dr Bawumia noted.
He also highlighted his administration’s strides in digitalization, including the introduction of a digital property address system to improve accessibility and efficiency in Ghana.
“Before, there were a lot of homes without address systems, when we came into government, I said the address system let’s introduce a new one. When we go digital it will facilitate our work, and a lot of people said we cannot do it and by the grace of God, I said it is possible. We have implemented a digital property address system in Ghana and we are the first country to implement the digital property addressing system.”
