The incumbent Member of Parliament for Dome-Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo has suffered a shock defeat in the party’s Dome Kwabenya primary held on Saturday, January 27, 2024.
The CEO of the Free Zones Authority, Mike Oquaye Jnr, emerged victorious with a commanding lead, polling over 1,194 votes, while Adwoa Safo garnered 328 votes. Sheela Oppong Sakyi, the third candidate in the race, secured a modest 100 votes.
The Dome-Kwabenya constituency witnessed a fiercely contested three-way competition, featuring Adwoa Safo, Mike Oquaye, and Sheela Oppong Sakyi.
As the votes were tallied, it became clear that a majority of party members had opted for a new representative.
The defeat of Adwoa Safo, who has held the MP position for Dome-Kwabenya since 2013, marks a notable change in the political landscape of the constituency.
The former Gender Minister incurred the wrath of constituents and her party’s hierarchy after she spent the greater part of last year out of the country.
