Head coach of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars, Carlos Queiroz, has bid an emotional farewell to Ghanaians following the expiration of his contract after Ghana’s FIFA World Cup campaign, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead the senior national team while urging stakeholders to prioritise long-term football development.
In a farewell message shared after the team’s exit from the tournament, the experienced Portuguese coach reflected on his time with the Black Stars, describing football as a game that offers lessons in both victory and defeat.
“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn,” he stated.
Queiroz said he was leaving Ghana with a deep sense of pride over the progress made during his tenure but admitted that he had hoped to achieve even greater success.
“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination; it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions,” he said.
The former coach stressed that sustained success for the Black Stars would require more than performances on the field, insisting that Ghana must invest in creating an enabling environment for the development of its football talent.
“The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch. Black Stars’ success must start off the field by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent.”
Queiroz expressed appreciation to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), thanking its president and executive board for the confidence reposed in him to manage the national team.
“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team. It was an honour and privilege to serve the country and the Black Stars.”
He also paid tribute to his players and members of the technical staff for their dedication, commitment and professionalism throughout the campaign.
“To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team,” he added.
Addressing Ghanaian football supporters, Queiroz acknowledged the disappointment surrounding the team’s World Cup exit but maintained that the Black Stars had restored their reputation on the global stage.
“We cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”
He thanked Ghanaians for their support and expressed confidence in the future of the national team.
