Residents of the capital city, Accra and its environs have been placed on high alert after the Ministry of the Interior issued an emergency weather warning over a possible flooding risk ahead of moderate rainfall expected early Monday morning.
In a text message sent to residents on Sunday evening, the Ministry cautioned that moderate rain is likely between 4:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2026, with a 40 per cent probability. The alert warned that low-lying and flood-prone areas could be affected and urged the public to remain vigilant.

Residents were advised to avoid walking or driving through flooded roads and to stay alert to changing weather conditions.
The warning follows a forecast by the Ghana Meteorological Agency indicating unsettled weather conditions across several parts of the country over the next 18 hours. According to the agency, rain and thunderstorms are expected to affect portions of the northern, transition and middle sectors from Sunday night into Monday.
GMet further forecast slight to moderate rainfall along the coast and parts of the middle belt on Monday morning, accompanied by patches of mist or fog over forested and mountainous areas, which could reduce visibility during the early hours.
Coastal communities, including Accra, Kasoa, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Aflao and Anloga, are expected to experience light to moderate rain, while inland areas may also receive rainfall before conditions gradually improve later in the day.
Marine conditions are expected to remain rough, prompting the agency to advise fisherfolk, commercial boat operators and others engaging in sea activities to exercise caution.
Authorities have urged the public to monitor official weather updates, avoid flood-prone areas where possible and exercise caution when travelling, particularly during periods of heavy rain, fog or reduced visibility.
