“We Will Find You and Deal with You” – Sam George Warns Cybercriminals as Security Agencies Arrest Over 100 Nigerian Suspects

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has issued a strong warning to cybercriminals following the arrest of over 100 Nigerian suspects in a major joint security operation targeting organised cybercrime networks in Ghana.

According to him, while Ghana remains open to legitimate business and enterprise, the country will not tolerate the use of its digital space for criminal activities.

This follows an early-morning raid by the Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service. The operation targeted key locations in Tabora and Lashibi, leading to the arrest of 100 suspects in Tabora and 41 others in Lashibi, bringing the total number of arrests to 141. Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are believed to be Nigerian nationals.

During the operation, law enforcement agencies retrieved 38 laptops and 150 mobile phones suspected of being used in the commission of cyber-enabled financial crimes. A Ghanaian landlord who allegedly accommodated 100 of the suspects in his residence has also been arrested, with authorities reiterating that property owners have a responsibility to ensure their premises are not used to facilitate criminal activities.

Taking to his social media handles to throw more light on the successful dawn raid, Sam George said the suspects are alleged to have been involved in a range of cyber-related offences, including Mobile Money fraud, romance scams, sextortion, Business Email Compromise, and wire fraud.

He also assured that individuals found culpable will be processed in accordance with Ghanaian law.

“The public is urged to remain vigilant, report suspicious digital activities, and continue to support national efforts to combat cybercrime.”

“Ghana remains welcoming to all of our friends and neighbours interested in legitimate enterprise. However, if you are interested in committing a cybercrime, we will find you, arrest you, and deal with you decisively according to our laws.”
