Ghana’s new Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Samuel Yao Kumah, on Friday, November 14, 2025, formally presented his Letter of Credence to the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, at a brief ceremony held at the UN Headquarters in New York.
Ambassador Kumah conveyed fraternal greetings from President John Dramani Mahama and reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to multilateralism and the principles of the UN Charter.
According to him, Ghana remains committed to working collaboratively with the United Nations and its Member States to champion international peace and security, sustainable development, and the protection of human rights.
Ambassador Kumah lauded the Secretary-General for his remarkable stewardship of the United Nations, especially in these times of geopolitical tensions, and observed that the UN80 Initiative launched by the Secretary-General was one of the most consequential efforts to reposition the United Nations to deal effectively with the complex challenges of our world today.
In his response, the UN Secretary-General Guterres commended Ghana’s longstanding cooperation with the UN across several fronts and expressed optimism that Ambassador Kumah’s tenure would “further deepen this strong partnership.”
The UN Chief lauded Ghana’s “vibrant democratic credentials,” its commitment to good governance and human rights, and its leadership role in addressing challenges in West Africa and the Sahel. He acknowledged Ghana’s active contributions to international peace, security, and sustainable development, assuring the country of the UN’s continued support.
