VIDEO: Investigative Committee Presents Report on August 6 Military Helicopter Crash

The Investigative Committee established to probe the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025, has officially presented its findings.

The report, which details the circumstances leading to the crash that claimed 8 lives, also provides recommendations to prevent future incidents.

The helicopter, which was en route to Obuasi for an event related to combating illegal mining, crashed into a forested mountainside in the Ashanti Region, killing all eight people on board, consisting of five passengers and three crew members.

The victims included the Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah and the Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology, Alhaji Murtala Mohammed, along with other government and military officials.

Ghana observed three days of national mourning, and a state funeral was held for those who died.

Subsequently, an investigation was launched, and flight recorders were recovered. Findings of the investigation were presented to the National Security Council on Monday, November 10, 2025.

Addressing a press conference to announce the details of the investigative report on behalf of the committee on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Aviation expert Captain (Rtd) Paul Forjoe said the helicopter that was involved in the fatal crash met all basic safety requirements.

“We also assessed the aircraft to see if it was for the purpose, he added. It met all the basic safety requirements,…the helicopter was in good condition and met all safety requirements.”

“The last 3 flights before the accident were conducted by the same crew,” he stressed.

Captain Forjoe said that the investigative team checked on the crew qualification. They also looked at the medical and psychological records of the crew.
