‘Ghanaian music industry needs education’ – Black Sherif on 2026 Grammys

With Ghanaian artistes missing from the nomination list for the 2026 Grammy Awards, artist Black Sherif, also known as Blacko, has stated that the Ghanaian music industry needs some education.

In an interview on Hitz FM on November 10, 2025, Blacko explained that there are aspects of the Grammy Awards that the Ghanaian music industry does not fully understand, though he could not specify exactly what they are.

69th Grammy Awards: Ghana misses out as nominations drop

“I believe there are so many things that we do not know about the Grammys. There is some education that we need, and as time goes on, we will get it. It is a growing industry that we have,” he said.

Black Sherif, who submitted entries for the African Music Performance and Best Global Music Album categories at the 2026 Grammys, disclosed that missing out on the nomination did not affect him personally.

“I would have been happy if they nominated me, but it didn’t even shift me when I was not nominated. I am not pushed, I’m not touched,” he stated.

The artist, who has also been tipped to win multiple categories at the 2026 TGMA, including Artiste of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, and Album of the Year, said he believes he deserves recognition for his work.

He further noted that awards hold a different kind of importance for fans compared to himself as an artist.

“My fans would be happy, and the awards, mostly if I want it, I want it for the fans. It is a validation for them. My validation is in the music, but the community that supports me needs the awards,” he added.
