The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has revealed that dancehall artiste Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., popularly known as Shatta Wale, has failed to provide credible proof of ownership or lawful acquisition of a Lamborghini Urus in his possession.
According to a statement from EOCO, the embattled musician claimed he bought the luxury vehicle from ‘the Street’ and added that the seller might be someone called ‘ZAK,’ who had contacted him via WhatsApp.
“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah has been unable to identify the person from whom he purchased the said Lamborghini Urus vehicle except to say that he purchased it from the “Street” and from someone possibly called “ZAK” who may have contacted him on WhatsApp but whose identity he does not know and whose contact he has thrown away.”
EOCO also noted that the artiste has been unable to present any official documents, such as a sales receipt or transfer papers, to validate his ownership.
“So far, Charles Nii Armah Mensah does not also possess any documentation in terms of receipt or transfer documents which show that he owns or purchased the said vehicle, except a customs declaration document in his possession bearing the name of Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is currently in jail.”
Meanwhile, scores of Shatta Wale’s fans have thronged the EOCO offices, demanding his immediate release.
Despite being granted bail of GHS10 million with two sureties after being detained over issues related to tax compliance, Shatta Wale’s release remains contingent upon meeting all legal requirements.
In a video update, Shatta Wale’s media manager, Samuel Atuobi Baah, popularly known as Sammy Flex, assured fans that the legal and management teams are working around the clock to satisfy the bail conditions and secure his freedom.
