The Appointments Committee of Parliament has commenced the vetting of seven individuals nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for appointment to the Supreme Court.
The nominees—Justices Sir Dennis Dominic Adjei, Gbiel Simon Suurbaareh, Senyo Dzamefe, Kweku Tawiah Ackah-Boafo, Philip Bright Mensah, Janpere Bartels-Kodwo, and Hafisata Ameleboba—were nominated in accordance with Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.
The vetting began on Monday, June 16, 2025, with Justice Senyo Dzamefe, a Court of Appeal judge, appearing first before the Committee.
Justice Dzamefe is widely recognised as the longest-serving judge in Ghana’s judiciary and brings decades of legal experience to the bench. Notably, he was appointed by President Mahama in 2012 as the sole commissioner for the Commission of Inquiry into Ghana’s participation in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The vetting process is expected to thoroughly examine the professional records, legal acumen, and judicial philosophies of the nominees as Parliament considers their suitability for the country’s apex court.
