The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has called on students of the Design and Technology Institute (DTI) to dream boldly, embrace creativity, and use their talents to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Speaking at the National Theatre ahead of DTI’s annual drama performance, Maria’s Love Story.
Hon. Gomashie reflected on her own journey in the arts to emphasise the transformative power of theatre and creative expression.
“Don’t limit yourselves,” she urged. “Challenge your imagination and use every opportunity to grow.”
She applauded the vision of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama for appointing professionals from the creative arts sector to lead key cultural institutions, noting that artists and creatives play a vital role in shaping national identity and driving tourism.
“Our culture, which fuels tourism, is shaped by storytellers, painters, poets, and artisans,” Hon. Gomashie stated.
“If this country is going to do well, it must respect those of us who create.”
The Minister reminded the Students of their responsibility as ambassadors for both the institute and the nation.
She encouraged them to use the privileged access they have to quality education to uplift others.
“You have something many children in the country do not have,” she said. “If you don’t make it count, then you have shortchanged Miss Constance Swaniker and all those investing in your future,” she added, referencing DTI’s visionary founder.
The Minister was joined at the event by Hon. Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing and Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West. An architect by profession.
Hon. Tetteh-Agbotui was described as a role model for DTI’s design students.
Also present was Mr. Divine Owusu Ansah, Director of Culture and Creative Arts at the Ministry.
The Design and Technology Institute is a leading technical and vocational education institution in Ghana. It integrates creative expression with technical skills training to prepare young people for careers in industry and entrepreneurship.
DTI aims to become West Africa’s premier centre for industrial job training and prototype development.
