The Minority in Parliament is demanding tough sanctions against the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, following a viral video showing him handing out bundles of US dollars to self-proclaimed evangelist Patricia Asieduaa, popularly known as Nana Agradaa.
The footage, which has triggered widespread public backlash, shows Mr. Gyamfi giving large sums of foreign currency to Agradaa in what appears to be a private meeting. Though he has since issued an apology, the Minority insists that the gesture is not only inappropriate but smacks of deeper financial mismanagement under the current government.
Addressing the press in Parliament today, May 12, 2025, a member of the Finance Committee, Dr. Kabiru Tia Mahama, described the conduct of the GoldBod CEO as “financial recklessness and shameful arrogance.”
“This incident encapsulates the arrogance, hypocrisy, and gross insensitivity that have come to define the NDC government under President John Dramani Mahama,” Dr. Mahama stated.
He lambasted the government’s handling of public finances, saying it adds insult to injury for ordinary Ghanaians already suffering under economic hardship.
“This display of financial recklessness is not only a betrayal of public trust but also a slap in the face of the millions of Ghanaians currently grappling with the devastating effects of cedi inflation and the unbearable cost of living,” he fumed.
Dr. Mahama further noted the irony that such behaviour comes from a government official who has long positioned himself as an advocate for economic discipline and anti-corruption.
“It is even more shameful that this act was committed by someone who has, in the past, championed populist rhetoric about economic discipline, cedi loyalty, and anti-corruption,” he added.
