The Alliance for Women in Media Africa (AWMA) has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang on her historic election as Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect.
According to AWMA, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s feat inspires a new generation of females to envision themselves in positions of influence and power.
“The election of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as Ghana’s first female Vice President-elect is a defining moment in the country’s political history. This milestone achievement marks a significant step forward for the recognition of women’s abilities as well as their representation in Ghana’s highest offices. As a distinguished academic and former Minister of Education, her achievement shatters long-standing barriers that have hindered women and inspires women to envision themselves in positions of power and influence.”
Professor Opoku-Agyemang, who served as Mahama’s running mate in the December 7, 2024 elections, made her second appearance on a presidential ticket, having also partnered with Mahama in the 2020 general election.
AWMA also added that her election reinforces the urgent need for women’s voices to be heard and their contributions to be recognized at all levels of governance.
“Her election endorses the crucial need for women’s representation to ensure women’s voices are heard and their issues, fairly recognized. As a distinguished and accomplished woman, her expertise and experience come to broaden perspectives, increase creativity and innovation, diversify the pool of talents and competencies available and more importantly, provide a transformative impact of inclusive leadership to the country.”
