For fans who have long cherished Irene Logan’s hits such as Run Away, Conga, Ghetto Love, My Mind Dey and Dream Big, brace up for her new era.
The songstress known for her sultry voice has undergone a profound transformation, both personally and musically, adopting the name Grace Osei and stepping into a completely new role as a gospel artiste. She no longer wants to sing to entertain but to preach Christ.
Sharing the inspiration behind this shift with the Daily Graphic, the singer disclosed the transformation was a direct result of her newfound purpose, which she held would guide her to achieve greater things in her new ministry.
“I was born Irene Elizabeth Grace Logan. My entire life story and journey has been a journey of faith and grace. Nothing else made more sense than to fully embrace that name. For me, Grace is a strong statement and a personal declaration of faith.”
No longer tied to the world of secular music, Irene Logan is now dedicated to using her talent to inspire, uplift and spread messages of faith through gospel music.
“I’m on a completely different path. A path of faith and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. That is my purpose. I’m grateful for all the opportunities my former self brought but I have moved on from ‘capturing former glory or fame a long time ago”.
Regret
The singer expressed regret for not answering her call to the ministry sooner. She admitted her hesitation stemmed from uncertainty about how to pursue her calling, but now she was fully equipped and determined to embrace it wholeheartedly without any reservations.
When asked if she regretted transitioning from secular music to gospel, she responded to the Daily Graphic with confidence, stating that she had no regrets. Instead, she views this journey as a valuable learning experience that has helped her refine her craft.
“When I reflect on my journey, I don’t harbour any regrets about the music industry itself. However, I do wish I had responded sooner to my true calling.
“In hindsight, I realise that my passion for gospel music and spreading the message of faith was always within me, waiting to be nurtured. If I could turn back the hands of time, I would have embraced this purpose earlier in my career.
“Though my path wound through the secular music scene, I’ve come to understand that every experience, whether joyful or challenging, has led me to where I am today. Now, as Grace Osei, I’m committed to using my voice and platform to serve a higher purpose.
“I’ve learned that embracing one’s calling requires courage, faith and total surrender. My journey may not have been linear, but it’s uniquely mine, and I’m grateful for the lessons learned along the way.”
Goal
Now that her mission as a gospel artiste is clearly defined, Irene asserted, she is not focused on chasing industry accolades. Instead, her goal is to make music that empowers and uplifts her listeners.
She also told the Daily Graphic she hopes to utilise her platform not just for artistic expression, but as a means to inspire and guide young girls and help them navigate challenges and foster their personal and spiritual growth.
“My goal is not to achieve musical success. My goal is to create songs that will affect my generation and future generations. Musical success is such a small thing to focus on in a world that needs so much more.
“Also, I try to live by example to encourage the youth to show up as their authentic selves and not allow the pressures of society to derail their future. I have always had a fiery passion for the youth- there’s more to come.
“I want to leave a global legacy as the Girl from Ghana who lived authentically for Jesus Christ, leaving behind countless testimonies of how my surrender inspired and disrupted the status quo.”
Married life
Touching on her personal life, the singer, who got married to Price Osei in April this year, believes without a shred of doubt that tying the knot was the best decision she has ever made in her 40 years on earth.
The singer is very certain marriage is an overwhelmingly positive experience, and it’s everything she’s ever yearned for. Since getting married to her husband who she met in 2022, Irene said her marriage has been a blessing.
She disclosed that although people might think she was still in the honeymoon stage and might not know what she was talking about, she could say, all chest out, that she has no regrets at all about getting married because her union has become the anchor that supports both her personal and professional aspirations.
“Getting married has been such a blessing. God blessed me with a very supportive husband who invests in me emotionally, financially and spiritually. Having a partner who is on your side makes everything so much easier. I feel protected and loved, and I’m able to create in a more relaxed headspace.
“Yes! Marriage has transformed my life in a way I cannot adequately explain. It is a sacred union which is both spiritual and physical. Agreeing to intertwine your life with someone else in such a powerful way is life-altering. If he’s a good man, you’re blessed, but if he’s not, you’re in big trouble. Luckily for me, my husband is a good man,” she said.
