A Ghanaian-US based Mining Engineer, Dr. Solomon Owusu, has sharply criticized the Akufo-Addo administration’s handling of illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, in the country.
In a scathing assessment, Dr. Owusu described the government’s approach as a “lame duck” effort, accusing high-ranking officials of engaging in illegal mining activities, which, he claims, is the reason for the administration’s sluggish efforts to curb the menace.
Speaking amid the escalating galamsey crisis, Dr. Owusu expressed dismay at the government’s failure to effectively combat the issue, despite being in office for seven years.
“Seven years into the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration, the struggle to combat galamsey persists,” he lamented.
Dr. Owusu highlighted the devastating impact of galamsey on land and water bodies, emphasizing that the ongoing challenge is a stark reminder that ignoring the truth and neglecting proper action can hinder progress.
The mining engineer urged the government to adopt punitive measures to enforce safer mining practices and protect the environment.
He concluded by praying for Ghana’s future, calling for truth, effective leadership, and a safer environment. “May God bless and guide our beloved Ghana, leading us towards a future where truth triumphs over lies and effective leadership prevails,” he stated.
Dr. Owusu’s remarks come at a time of growing concern over the administration’s ability to address the galamsey crisis, which continues to ravage the country’s natural resources and pose serious health risks to communities.
