Government Doubles LEAP Cash Grants for 324,073 Households

The government has announced a significant increase in cash grants for households benefiting from the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, June 27, 2024, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) disclosed that beneficiaries will receive double the amount they were entitled to in June 2023, following a delay in grant payments.

To support this increase, the government has allocated GHS103,251,072.01 to disburse to 324,073 beneficiary households, according to the Ministry.

Payments for the January and February 2024 LEAP cash grants will begin on Monday, July 1, with the revised grant amounts taking effect immediately.

“From June to December 2023, the LEAP Grants paid to beneficiary households bi-monthly were as follows: one-member household was entitled to GHS128.00, two-member households were entitled to GHS152.00, three-member households were entitled to GHS176.00, and finally four and above member households were entitled to GHS212.00,” the Ministry stated.

“With immediate effect, the cash grants provided to households enrolled in the LEAP programme will see a 100 per cent increase from the 2023 figures as follows: one-member household from GHS128.00 to GHS256.00, two-member households from GHS152.00 to GHS304.00, three-member households from GHS176.00 to GHS352.00, and four-member households from GHS212.00 to GHS424.00.”

The Ministry highlighted that the increased grants aim to provide relief and support to families across the country, enabling them to meet their basic needs more effectively.
