The suspended Parliamentary Candidate of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), for the Assin Central constituency, Nurein Shaibu Migyimah, has urged his numerous supporters to remain calm.
The embattled NDC candidate for the 2024 elections is contesting allegations of immoral acts and anti-party conduct that led to his withdrawal as a candidate and a six-month suspension.
This comes after the Central Regional Secretariat of the party announced Migyimah’s withdrawal from the 2024 general elections on moral grounds following complaints and exhaustive investigations by the party’s Central Regional Functional Executive Committee. The committee subsequently informed the Assin Central Chairman of the NDC about Migyimah’s suspension, pending review and adjudication by the Regional Disciplinary Committee.
Speaking to Accra-based Joy News on the back of this, Migyimah assured his supporters he would be vindicated through the party’s proper channels.
“l believe, and I know whatever allegation, anything they’ve said or whatever it is, after I go through the right party structures, I’ll be vindicated. God being so good, God willing, ‘Inshallah’, on December 7, I’m going to win the election.”
He also noted that he’s yet to receive the official suspension letter detailing the allegations, which he refutes.
The Central Regional NDC has not provided detailed explanations of the offences, merely citing “immoral acts and anti-party conduct.”
The Assin Central seat is currently held by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong of the governing New Patriotic Party, who secured 19,754 votes (57.26%) against Migyimah’s 14,747 votes (42.74%) in the last election.
It remains unclear how this decision will affect the constituency’s dynamics in the December elections with the incumbent NPP MP not seeking re-election.
