Why gospel musician Yaw Sarpong’s wife dragged him to Auntie Naa

Gospel musician Yaw Sarpong’s wife has disclosed mistreatment from her husband’s family amid his illness.

She noted that initially, she cared for her husband at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), but a situation arose causing a change.

She added that her husband requested she cease caring for him, as he was to be moved to a pastor’s place for treatment, which she found disagreeable. Upon visiting later, she discovered Maame Tiwaa attending to him, which upset her.

In an Oyerepa FM interview with Auntie Naa, she said that her husband’s family has barred her from caring for him.

She recounted, “I’ve been with my husband for 40 years. I was his caregiver at Komfo Anokye Hospital when his illness started. At one point, he told me to stay home and pray for him, as his sister would take him to a pastor’s for treatment.

“Unhappy with this, I visited him after four days, only to find Maame Tiwaa taking care of him, leading to frustration. His sisters, particularly one abroad, accused me of misusing his funds. My visits are met with hostility from his sisters, who prevent me from seeing him.”

Yaw Sarpong battles stroke

It can be recalled that a couple of months ago, Yaw Sarpong’s manager confirmed that his artiste was indeed battling a stroke.

Nana Poku Ashis, who spoke exclusively to GhanaWeb, disclosed that the “Oko Yi” hitmaker had been ill for over a year.

“He has been bedridden for over a year now. It started around this time last year. It was really bad when it happened a year ago, but we are hoping that he will regain his strength in the coming months,” Ashis said.

“Everyone needs help. We would need prayers, and those who have and are willing to help can offer him a little. The few people he has impacted with his music should also help,” he added.

Prior to Yaw Sarpong’s manager’s confirmation of his illness, gospel singers Diana Asamoah and Maame Tiwaa had already informed the public.

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, contributed a sum of GH¢100,000 to aid Yaw Sarpong’s medical care.
