A collaborative effort between Ghanaian and British authorities intercepted a massive haul of suspected cocaine at Kotoka International Airport in Accra on Monday, June 10.
Acting on intelligence, officers from the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and the UK National Crime Agency stopped two British passengers, Hall Shamin Ethline and Graham Omar Adel, who were about to board a British Airways flight to Gatwick.
A thorough inspection of their luggage—six suitcases in total, three each—revealed a substantial amount of narcotics. All six suitcases contained a total of 72 slabs of suspected cocaine, with an estimated street value of US$6.48 million.
Further investigation found that Hall Shamin Ethline’s luggage contained approximately 83.44 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine, cleverly concealed alongside personal belongings. Similarly, Graham Omar Adel’s suitcases also contained roughly the same amount, 83.44 kilogrammes, hidden among his personal items.
Both individuals have been arrested and are currently assisting NACOC with their investigations.
