The National Chief Imam of Ghana, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu has urged all Muslims across the country to break their fast and rest today.
According to him, even though the first sighting of the moon for the month of Shawwal was sighted on Tuesday, April 9, the Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations will still be held on Thursday, April 11, following the established practice.
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan and is one of the most important festivals in the Islamic calendar.
An earlier statement released by the Office of the National Chief Imam, said “As has been the practice with us in Ghana since about thirty-two years ago whether the moon is sighted or not our EID-CELEBRATION will come off on THURSDAY 11TH APRIL, 2024.”

“All Regional Imams and the general public are to take note of this,” noted the statement.
The confirmation of the Eid date comes after the Ministry of Interior announced earlier this week that Thursday, April 11, will be observed as a national holiday to honour the Islamic festival.
