As Ghanaian Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak prepares to take on the Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon, she faces a set of stringent rules that must be meticulously followed to break the current record held by Alan Fisher. Fisher’s remarkable achievement was confirmed after an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes of non-stop cooking, surpassing Hilda Baci’s previous record by over 24 hours.
Now, Chef Failatu is gearing up to break Fisher’s record having cooked continuously for over 160 hours.
The Tamale-based Chef is embarking on the longest cooking marathon at the Modern City Hotel in the Northern Regional capital.
To accomplish this culinary challenge, Chef Failatu Abdul-Razak must adhere to seven strict rules set forth by Guinness World Records:
- Cooking Hours:
- The individual must cook non-stop for at least 125 hours, exceeding Fisher’s record.
- At least two items must be prepared or cooked simultaneously at any given time.
- Proxy Not Allowed:
- The individual must undertake all cooking activities personally.
- A sous-chef is allowed for assistance in prep work, washing up, and cleaning the kitchen area.
- Five Minutes Break:
- The individual is granted a five-minute rest break for every continuous hour of activity.
- Accumulation of unused break times is allowed, serving as the only period for bathroom use or sleep during the attempt.
- 35 Menu Guide:
- The individual must follow a 35-item menu as a guide for every meal prepared.
- Adequate ingredients must be available for each recipe, with the team authorized to procure additional items during the cooking marathon.
- Items Consumed:
- All items cooked must be consumed, and the public is invited to partake in the freshly made meals.
- Leftover food must be donated to a charity of the individual’s choice.
- Installed Cameras:
- CCTV cameras must be installed in the kitchen area to record the entire attempt.
- The footage is to be submitted to Guinness World Records for verification.
- Medical Assistants:
- A medical assistant must be on standby to monitor vital signs and provide necessary care during the cooking marathon.
