A Lecturer at the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development, Prof. Yarhands Dissou Arthur has questioned why the Controller and Accountant General is engaged in active partisan politics while in post.
According to him, this is a dangerous precedent which flies in the face of various constitutional provisions.
The concerns of the lecturer come at a time, when the Controller, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem is crisscrossing the Akyem Swedru constituency in a bid to woo delegates to elect him as the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate.
Speaking on the back of this development, Prof Arthur told Accra-based Power 97.9 FM that if the Controller had any integrity in him, he would have resigned before picking up forms to contest on the ticket of the NPP.
“It’s a no-go area, especially for someone who is the Controller and Accountant General for the Republic of Ghana. This Controller and Accountant General, if he had integrity, would have resigned by now. Before that issue popped up, the Minority raised concerns that he’s put people in his constituency on government payroll so how can you exonerate yourself from it?” he quizzed.
Prof Arthur also called on President Akufo-Addo to take action and emphasized that the Controller and Accountant General’s position is not a government appointment.
“If the government indeed had the integrity to protect the people of Ghana by this time, they would have shown him the exit or asked him to resign. The Controller and Accountant General’s position is not a government appointment. Government appointees like Sammy Awuku who is the CEO of National Lottery Authority will exit his office if NDC comes to power.”
“But, as I mentioned, the Controller and Accountant General shouldn’t let others speak before he announces his resignation. He made the decision to enter parliament, fully confident that he would win. Even if he were to lose his position as Controller and Accountant General, securing a new career as a parliamentarian seems assured, given that the constituency is an NPP stronghold. It’s essentially a done deal for him if he wins the primaries.”
