My uncle elevated your town to paramountcy – Otumfuo ‘fires’ Dormaahene

The Asantehene, Otumfuor Osei Tutu II has set the records straight on how the Dormaa traditional area became a paramountcy.

According to him, it took the intervention of his (Otumfuo’s) late uncle who was a former occupant of the Golden Stool for the town to be elevated.

Recounting the historical account at an Asanteman Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace the Asantehene said there was the need to revisit the subject matter to combat efforts from some quarters to distort history.

In his address, portions of which were posted by Opemsuo Radio on YouTube, the Asantehene explained, “Sampa is my town, Bono and Ahafo… Agyeman Badu (the first) took his oath here before going to assume his throne. He was a teacher here at Government Boys School. He swore in front of my uncle before assuming his position.”

The Asantehene emphasized the need to clarify these historical facts due to recent disagreements and criticisms.

“It is because of these notorious ones that I am recounting this issue. What at all is it?” he quizzed.

Agyeman Badu I, referred to in his speech, is an uncle of the current Dormaa chief, Agyeman Badu II, who has questioned the influence of the Asantehene in the region.

In a recent interview with Ghanaweb, Dormaahene Osagyefo Oseadeayo Agyeman Badu II said there was no King in Ghana as the 1992 constitution granted all chiefs equal powers. He has also warned chiefs under the Dormaa jurisdiction against pledging allegiance to paramountcies other than the one that bestowed their throne.
