IGP leaked tape probe: Supt. Asare petitions committee to allow 3 witnesses to testify against Dampare

One of the senior police officers in the IGP leaked tape saga, Superintendent George Asare has petitioned the ad-hoc parliamentary committee to allow 3 witnesses to testify against his boss, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

In a letter sent through his legal representatives to the committee’s Chairman, Supt. Asare formally requested the testimonies of Ishaw Yakubu a.k.a Boyo, Samuel Ofori and ASP Bawah Abdul Jalil to support the five allegations he previously raised against IGP Dampare during previous hearings.

“In our quest to provide evidence to substantiate some of the claims made on the audio tape, we wish to call the following persons to assist the committee on some matters,” the letter pointed out.

Ishaw Yakubu, a.k.a. Boyo, and Samuel Ofori are expected to provide testimony on the following issues:

a.The award of a contract to Bugri Naabu and the payments of kickbacks by Dr Akuffo Dampare.

b. The extra-judicial killings being committed by the PID upon the directions of Dr Akuffo Dampare

These individuals are prepared to participate in an in-camera hearing, which is scheduled for October 2, pending an invitation from the committee.

During his opportunity to respond to the allegations brought forth by Superintendent Asare and retired COP George Alex Mensah, IGP Dampare firmly denied all the claims made against him.

Some of the damning allegations made against the IGP include running a one-man show, mismanagement of the service, shutting down the Police Service PR unit, IGP being in contact with former President John Mahama, offering juicy contracts to Bugri Naabu among others.
