The Minority in Parliament has once again postponed its planned protest to occupy the premises of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to demand the resignation of the governor and his deputies. The protest is now scheduled for October 3, 2023.
This decision to reschedule the protests to pave the way for the Limited Voter Registration Exercise which begins on Tuesday, September 12, 2023.
“The change in the date has been necessitated by the commencement of the Limited Registration Exercise to be organized by the Electoral Commission which starts on the same day as the original date of the protest. By this change, we are also urging all eligible voters to avail themselves of the opportunity to get their names onto the Voters Register. And after that Exercise, we shall mobilise our teeming supporters to join in the demonstration against the rot and corruption that has eaten deep into the management of the central bank,” a statement signed by NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah read.
We want to assure the general public that absolutely nothing will stand in our way on the rescheduled date as we stand ready and willing to protest vigorously against the crass leadership offered by President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party which has affected every facet of our national life and is manifested particularly by the nation-wrecking activities of the top management of the Bank of Ghana,” the statement further added.
Earlier, a meeting between the Minority leadership and the police ended inconclusively, with the MPs accusing the police of deliberately obstructing their planned protest against the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and his deputies.
