Court orders OSP to return millions of cedis and dollars seized from Cecilia Dapaah within 7 days

An Accra High Court has ordered the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to return millions of cedis and dollars seized from Cecilia Dapaah, the former Sanitation Minister, within seven days.

Dapaah found herself embroiled in a legal dispute when the OSP confiscated her assets. Nevertheless, the court has now overturned this action, compelling the OSP to return the seized funds to her.

The embattled Minister who recently resigned is currently under investigation by the OSP for alleged corruption and corruption-related offences after revelations that she possessed over $1 million in her residence.

Following startling revelations of stolen funds by her domestic staff, the Office of the Special Prosecutor raided her residences. These searches led to the discovery of a substantial sum of $590,000 and an amount of GHC2.730,000 in cash at her Abelemkpe residence. The OSP promptly seized these substantial amounts as crucial evidence in their ongoing investigation.

As part of the investigation, the OSP also froze the cedi and dollar accounts of the former minister to facilitate further scrutiny.

The saga began with the burglary at Dapaah’s residence, in which domestic workers were allegedly involved. The charges state that the stolen funds included $1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghanaian cedis.

Dapaah resigned from her position as the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources amid the scandal. She was subsequently arrested and questioned by the OSP for “suspected corruption and corruption-related offences.” However, she was released on bail after searches were conducted at her official and private residences.
