Francis Addai-Nimoh, a flagbearer aspirant of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), has underscored the prominent role of financial influence in last Saturday’s Special Delegates Conference.
According to him, financial influence was one of the major factors that took centre stage in the August 26 Special Delegates Conference.
As the party gears up for its November 4 ordinary conference, Addai-Nimoh remains among the top five contenders, with a crucial September 2 run-off election on the horizon.
Speaking to Accra-based Citi News, Addai-Nimoh said “I know of financial influence and there are three things that I will want to talk about which include financial influence, integrity, and intelligence and I will put integrity and intelligence to be one and financial influence to stand alone.”
The former Mampong MP also cautioned delegates against solely prioritizing financial considerations when selecting leaders for the party. Instead, he urged them to consider the aspirants’ integrity and intelligence as well.
“One must assess between financial influence and integrity and intelligence, and decide which one to go for when deciding who is the most suitable person to whom I should give my vote. So, my advice to delegates is that there is always motivation, but also look at integrity and intelligence. In the end, you are looking for someone in whom you can place your trust, someone who can manage your resources and use them for your benefit. So, only vote for the most suitable person.”
Regarding the surprising outcome of the election where he secured nine votes, propelling him into a run-off with Boakye Agyarko on September 2, Addai-Nimoh expressed his disappointment.
“I was surprised with the results that came from the various regions because they were not the figures that I was hoping to get, and I was disappointed with what I had in the Ashanti Region which is my own region.”
