Occupy BoG: Minority agrees modalities with Police ahead of September 5 protest

The Minority in Parliament says it has agreed modalities with the police ahead of their planned protest at the Bank of Ghana Head Office, scheduled for September 5, 2023.

Expressing concerns over what they perceive as mismanagement of the central bank and substantial losses totalling GHC 60 billion as indicated in the 2022 financial report, the Minority issued a 21-day ultimatum to Dr Ernest Addison, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, along with his deputies, demanding their resignation.

Following a closed-door meeting with officers of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah told the media that all necessary preparations have been completed for the upcoming Occupy Bank of Ghana protest.

On his part, Bernard Monarh, a member of the activist group AriseGhana, who participated in the meeting with the Minority and the police, criticized Dr Addison, for justifying the construction of the new central bank headquarters.

“We hold the view that the illegal printing of money by BoG in the years 2021 and 2022 to the tune of GH¢77 billion to finance the recklessness of the corrupt Akufo-Addo/Bawumia/NPP government, in flagrant disregard of section 30 of the BOG Act (as amended) is the height of irresponsibility and must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.”
