In a shocking revelation on the July 25th edition of Accra-based Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show, ace broadcaster Paul Adom-Otchere disclosed that the late brother of embattled former sanitation minister, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, left behind a staggering sum of US$800,000, which was stolen alongside US$200,000 belonging to Cecilia Dapaah in a heist orchestrated by two of her former house helps in 2022.
The money was reportedly given to their late mother by her late brother who was a sub-chief of the Asantehene, who, in turn, transferred the funds to Cecilia Dapaah.
“The US$800,000 was reported to the police and described to belong to Cecilia Dapaah’s brother… as is on the charge sheet. This 800,000 dollars is controversial because it doesn’t belong to Cecilia Dapaah and her husband.”
“According to what Cecilia Dapaah wrote to the police which is what is in the charge sheet right now as I am speaking to you, and it was written months ago. It is for her brother who died months ago at the age of 60.”
The situation surrounding the heist has been further complicated as there seem to be discrepancies regarding the ownership of the stolen cash sums. The official police charge sheet claims that 300,000 euros, also stolen, belonged to the former minister. However, Adom-Otchere, based on documents he had seen, asserted that it was declared as belonging to her husband instead.
During the show, Adom-Otchere delved into the business interests of the husband who is an architect and the late brother, raising questions about their capacity to accumulate such substantial sums of money. He called on the public to examine the evidence and make their own value judgment on the matter.
