In a high-profile theft case involving the Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour, the Accra Circuit Court has brought charges against two house helps and three other individuals.
The accused individuals are 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, along with Benjamin, a 29-year-old plumber, Kweku Botwe, a 65-year-old trader, and Malik Dauda, a 23-year-old unemployed individual.
According to reports by The Chronicle, the alleged thefts took place at the couple’s residence in Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra, between July and October 2022, resulting in significant losses of money and personal belongings amounting to millions of Ghana Cedis.
The charges against Patience and Sarah include one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing. The stolen amounts involve US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana Cedis. Additionally, during the same period, the duo is alleged to have stolen assorted clothes valued at GH¢95,000, handbags, perfumes, and jewellery amounting to US$95,000, all belonging to Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah.
Further accusations were made against Patience individually, as she is alleged to have stolen six pieces of Kente cloth worth GH¢90,000 and six sets of men’s suits valued at US$3,000, which belonged to the minister’s husband.
The court has charged Benjamin, the 29-year-old plumber, with dishonestly receiving GH¢180,000. Similarly, Kweku Botwe, the 65-year-old trader, is facing charges for dishonestly receiving GH¢50,000. Additionally, Malik Dauda, the 23-year-old unemployed individual, has been accused of dishonestly receiving GH¢1 million.
