Starting today, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) will open nominations for parliamentary primaries in constituencies where the party currently lacks representation. The nomination period will run until Thursday, August 10, and elections are expected to be held between September and December.
According to the party, male aspiring parliamentary candidates are required to submit a non-refundable filing fee of GH¢35,000. Women and persons with disabilities, on the other hand, will pay 50% of the fee. This fee structure aims to promote inclusivity and encourage the participation of under-represented groups within the party.
Aspirants are urged to adhere to the party’s constitution and follow the appropriate procedure to address any grievances that may arise during the nomination and election processes.
The scheduling of the party’s internal contests faced delays as the National Executive Council encountered difficulties in setting a date for the elections. Consequently, the initial calendar had to be revised to accommodate the necessary arrangements.
