World Cup 2026 qualifiers: Ghana placed in Pot 2, likely to face Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal or Egypt

Ghana is likely to face either Algeria, Nigeria, Senegal or Egypt when the African qualifiers for the World Cup 2026 are announced next week.

This comes after the Black Stars were placed in Pot 2 for the African qualifiers, as announced by FIFA on July 2.

This means that Ghana could potentially be drawn into a group with teams from Pot 1, which includes Nigeria, Morocco, Algeria, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, Mali, Egypt, and Ivory Coast. The group draw is scheduled to take place on July 12.

The African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup will consist of nine groups, each comprising six teams. The group winners will secure a direct qualification for the World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the United States of America, Mexico, and Canada. The four best runners-up will then compete in a mini-tournament, with the winner advancing to an intercontinental play-off.

Ghana’s previous World Cup campaign was in 2022, where they defeated Nigeria’s Super Eagles in the playoffs to secure qualification but were ultimately eliminated in the group stage.

The Black Stars will be looking to make a strong comeback in the upcoming qualifiers as they aim to secure a spot in the prestigious tournament.
